Local and State Issues
Outdoor cats pose a very real threat to birds and other wildlife. This page collects information and articles that detail this concern and ASNV’s efforts to confront it.
The Virginia General Assembly will convene in Richmond for its 2023 session on January 11 and adjourn around February 25. We urge you to become informed about the major conservation bills we anticipate and to talk to your state legislators before they go to Richmond.
On January 18, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved proposed plans to develop Bles Park without adopting several modifications that cause concern to ASNV and other environmental advocates.
House Bill 1337, introduced in the Virginia House of Delegates on January 21 by Del. Kaye Kory, would authorize any locality, by ordinance, to regulate the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.
Audubon Society of Northern Virginia is urging the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to protect important wetland habitat on South Long Branch
National Issues
On June 14 the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, H.R. 2773, 231 to 190. Northern Virginia Representatives Spanberger, Beyer, Wexton and Connolly voted for it.
