We are pleased to announce the winner of last week’s Monday Nature Mystery, Phoenix Poppendeck!
Congratulations to Phoenix for identifying the White Trillium (Trillium grandiflorum).
Congratulations to Phoenix for correctly identifying this White Trillium flower. According to our friends at Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia, this showy trillium, with flower diameters up to four inches, is a familiar spring, native wildflower in the Mid-Atlantic woodlands of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian Plateaus. This species’ seeds are spread by ants and the wide flowers provide cover for small mammals.
Each Monday we’ll post a new mystery and identify the previous week’s winner. They’ll receive an ASNV hat or tote bag.
Here is this week’s mystery:
Who is this? Can you tell by just the beak?
Be sure to post your guess on our Facebook page under the latest Monday Nature Mystery post. Good Luck!
